The collaboration gives radiation oncology teams a practical way to deliver guideline-recommended photobiomodulation within existing workflows.

Mureva Phototherapy Inc. and Siemens Healthineers today announced a U.S. co-marketing agreement to expand awareness of and access to the Mureva treatment, the first FDA-authorized intraoral phototherapy device for radiation-induced oral mucositis (OM). Through the agreement, Siemens Healthineers will introduce radiation oncology practices to the Mureva treatment and connect them directly with Mureva to evaluate implementation.

The Mureva device received FDA De Novo authorization in 2025, establishing a new Class II classification for intraoral phototherapy devices, and previously received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation. The authorization was supported by a recently published, randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled pivotal trial in which Mureva significantly reduced the incidence of severe OM during radiation therapy compared with sham. No device-related adverse events were reported in the trial.¹

OM is a common toxicity of radiation therapy for head and neck cancer, often associated with debilitating pain. When severe, it can compromise a patient's ability to eat and swallow, necessitate feeding-tube placement, disrupt cancer treatment, and diminish quality of life during treatment and recovery.

MASCC/ISOO global guidelines recommend intraoral photobiomodulation (PBM) for the prevention of OM in adults receiving radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. However, traditional approaches to delivering PBM can be resource- and time-intensive. Mureva is designed to make guideline-recommended PBM practical to incorporate into the radiation oncology workflow.

Mureva delivers a 10-minute treatment using two soft, flexible intraoral mouthpieces designed for daily use. The treatment can be implemented within existing ARIA® workflows to support efficient treatment scheduling, streamlined charge capture, and documentation without requiring a custom software interface.
